Written in the guestbook of Unit F2 at the Hanalei Colony Resort in Kauai…
This has been, hands down, one of the best trips ever. Never mind the fact that I married my husband just over a week ago on 8/8. A lot of it was about getting to spend so much quality time together on an island that seems to emphasize appreciating the moment. The warmth, openness and generosity of the aloha spirit is something we hope to carry with us always.
Also, to the Lynns, our hometown is also Chicago! So lovely to feel just as at-home here. Thank you for the use of your stunning unit.
Our moments:
- Dinner at The Beach House in Poipu at sunset. Scallops, scallops, scallops.
- The bartenders at Plantation Gardens, who helped lubricate our wedding guests (many had not met before, so it helped bridge unfamiliarity)
- Snorkeling at Poipu, Tunnels, He’e and off the Na Pali Coast with Captain Joe. (We snorkeled in front of F2 also, it was okay. Rocky, so be careful.)
- Zodiac tour up the Na Pali Coast was INCREDIBLE. Worth every penny. We went with Captain Na Pali out of Waimea.
- Kayak Kauai – $27 for full day rental. Up here, to paddle the river and the bay, you don’t really need a guide.
- Shave ice and chocolate ice cream at Paradise in Hanalei
- Hiking the first bit of the Lalalau Trail. We’re coming back one day for it, so beautiful!
- Hiking down to the bottom of Wailua Falls. This definitely needs a guide. Short, but very steep. Worth it though! We went with our photog www.kenposney.com. Ken and his wife Hau were great.
- Cooking breakfast and dinner here at HCR. The Foodland in Princeville rocks!
And finally, echoing the Aronson and Bernheisel families, Thumper Georgette, the charming, loyal and very cuddly manx kitty. Her daily “hellos” were much appreciated. Such a lover.
Till we meet again, mahalo nui!

Jeff reminded me:
- The Kilauea lighthouse. Get the binoculars and watch the birds. We saw two monk seals here too.
- Hamura Saimen in Lihue. Best meal, yum!
